Our Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee is brought to you fresh from the majestic Blue Mountains of Jamaica which soar from the Caribbean sea up to a height of 7,402 feet above sea level.  After climbing up a switch back road, visitors will find nestled against the hillside the Mavis Bank Coffee Factory.  For over 120 years this family owned business has been producing roasted coffee which has excited the taste buds of coffee aficionados across the globe as they taste and fall in love with one of the world’s signature coffees.  Under the brand name Jablum, Mavis Bank continues to delight those who appreciate the mellow lingering taste and aroma which has captivated gourmet coffee lovers for generations.

There are some 25,000 coffee farmers cultivating about 6,000 hectares of land in a designated area of the Blue Mountains which lie in the eastern end of the island between the towns of Port Maria and Port Antonio on the north coast and Kingston, which is on the south coast.  To be certified as Blue Mountain coffee, the beans must have been grown in a designated area which lies within a 10 mile radius of the Blue Mountain Peak at altitudes of between 3,000 and 5,500 feet above sea level.

Mavis Bank purchase their coffee cherries from around 6,000 different farmers.  The Jamaican coffee producers were years ahead of the now familiar Fair-trade movement, already paying smaller farms a higher price for their coffee than the larger farms receive.  For these small farmers the coffee companies operate a pre-payment scheme where a proportion of the buying price for the expected yield is paid in advance, the remainder being paid after harvesting.

Companies from around the world who import green, unroasted, beans pay a lower price to the Jamaican coffee companies, reaping the added value that roasting brings for themselves. By importing ready roasted coffee we are able to help support the Jamaican economy by paying a higher price direct to the Jamaican producers.  This also ensures that your Blue Mountain coffee is 100% pure and has not been diluted with cheaper quality beans, as your coffee has been roasted to order before being tested by the Coffee Industry Board of Jamaica.  They examine the beans for imperfections before tasting it to make sure that each bag of coffee comes up to the same exacting standards on appearance, aroma and taste.  It is only after your coffee has passed these stringent quality testing procedures that it is then given the Coffee Industry Board of Jamaica’s mark of authenticity to guarantee that each delivery of coffee will provide you with the same tantalising taste experience.
